About Tōtle
Tōtle (say it like "total") is a daily math puzzle: five numbers, one target, and + − × ÷ to get there.
Why I made it
My family and I do Wordle and share our results with each other. My daughter is off at college now, and when she sends me her solution for the day, it's a fun little way to stay connected, and a challenge to see if I can beat it.
I got an idea for a little puzzle that borrowed some of what makes Wordle fun for us: one puzzle a day, the same for everyone, quick to play, and a result you can share without spoiling it. So I built a quick prototype, got feedback from a few people, and after a lot of changes landed on something I'm pretty happy with.
There's a second reason, too. I'd like everyday math to feel like second nature. A lot of us learned arithmetic as long step-by-step methods, so bigger numbers can feel like they'll take forever. (Long division, anyone?) But there are handy shortcuts for all four operations, and with a little practice they make most of it fairly easy. I wanted a place to practice those, a few minutes at a time, that feels like a game rather than homework.
If you enjoy puzzles like Wordle, I think you'll have a great time with Tōtle.
